Error 0x80070522 [build 10074] A required privilege is not held by the client.

Hi,

I'm on ASUS N56VZ (all drivers checked and up to date)
after updating to 10074

I got this weird error when I try to "manipulate" any kind of file in the C: folder.

it seems i don't have the right to edit, copy, rename any file inside that partition,
I tried to solve this by editing the security privileges on Volume C properties but it changed nothing.

so I'm asking for support as soon as you can

Thanks for your help

Hi iacoviellodom,

Welcome to Microsoft Community. Your interest in Windows 10 Technical Preview is much appreciated.

I would suggest you to check the user permission settings on C Drive and check.

  1. Right-click on the ‘C: drive’ and select ‘Properties’.
  2. Click on ‘Security’ tab and under ‘Group or user names’ click on ‘Edit’.
  3. Click on ‘Add’ and type ‘everyone’.
  4. Click on ‘Check names’ and then click ‘OK’.
  5. Select ‘everyone’ and under ‘Allow’ select ‘Full control’ and click on ‘Apply’ and Click ‘Ok’.

If the issue still persists, you need to disable UAC completely and then check for the issue. Follow the below steps:

  1. Press Windows key + R.
  2. Type “msconfig” and press Enter
  3. Select the Tools tab
  4. Select “change UAC settings” and click launch
  5. Select the UAC control to “never notify me

If the above won’t help, follow the below steps:

  1. Press Windows key + R, type in regedit and hit Enter.
  2. Go to path below and change the DWORD to 0.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, EnableLUA and set to 0.
