9926 Audio Issue: Browser/Apps

First off - let me just say I love the new Windows - thank you for the chance to "play" with it.

Coming across an interesting hiccup:  I can't get playback sound on any browser (IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc) from online videos/audio.  Nor can I get audio from iTunes.  BUT... I still have system sounds and such.  I've reinstalled the browsers, Silverlight, and iTunes - all to no avail.  Reinstalled the audio driver for the onboard soundcard as well - though I did have system sounds before and after the reinstall.

Hopefully this is not a duplicate question - I look forward to any tips/tricks to resolve this.

-Mak

Answer

a fix has just been posted in another tread - worked for me.

I quote

"I also noticed sound only coming from Google Chrome.

Today I fixed it. It seems fairly trivial, so who knows if it will work for anyone else.

  1. Open Playback Devices
  2. Right-click the output device (in my case, "Speakers") and set as Default Device.
  3. Select the  device, and click on the Properties button
  4. Go to the Enhancements tab and check "Disable all enhancements"

I had to restart the app I was using for sound to work, but that was it.

Also, I'm using VIA HD Audio drivers."
