Cortana is not working for me in latest preview builds (14257, 14267)

Clicking on the Search Box will open Cortana normally as expected, but whenever I click on the Microphone button to listen, everything locks up and the Windows Shell crashes and freezes, causing me to have to restart explorer through the task manager. Hey Cortana hot word doesn't work at all. Pressing Win+C will also crash explorer.  I have the latest realtek audio drivers and running the microphone troubleshooter doesn't help. I can verify that my microphone is working fine with any other app. This is on my HP laptop model 17-g188caa with AMD A10-8700P APU with B&O. I also tried rebooting, and that doesn't work either. I'm using Cortana in Canada with the Speech packs installed. Other things I tried to fix this problem include turning on and off Cortana, as well as sfc /scannow. One thing to note is the "train my voice" setting is missing. This started happening in build 14257, before it worked fine. This is all the information I have available, does anyone of a solution to this problem?

Follow the Methods below.

Method 1:

Please follow the steps to run System Maintenance troubleshooter on the computer:

• Type “Control Panel” on the search box.
• Click on Troubleshooting.
• Click on View all option on the left side of the Windows.
• Click on System Maintenance option.
• Click on Next and follow the onscreen instructions to troubleshoot the issue.

Method 2: Run the Microsoft safety scanner and check if your computer is infected by malware.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free downloadable security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Disclaimer: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Method 3: I suggest you to create new user account and check if that helps.

To enjoy full feature of Windows 10 you need Microsoft Account.

Hello everyone. After spending an entire two days troubleshooting this, it seems that this is indeed a bug. It seems that the Canadian speech packs have corrupted and not working well with Cortana. I fixed the problem by changing the Region to United States, get the US English lang pack, and using the US English speech pack. Hopefully engineers on the Cortana team are aware and investigating this.

First problem is that as an Insider Fast Track every time a new build downloads the English Text and Speech Optional Features MUST be downloaded again. Every time!!!! Also the Name must be re-entered.... every time!!

Since Build 14257 Cortana Canada stopped speaking and recently in 14267 and 14271 it also stopped listening. I am getting the same errors as posted above.

Please please please Have the Cortana group live as Canadians for a month so they can experience the problems we are having. And from the looks of the Feedback app so are the Australians. It is far easier for us in Canada to simply change our settings to US and have things work. But seriously if Cortana is supposed to be equal or better than Siri and Hey Google then get it together and fix this!!

It is not a hardware problem as other apps which use the sound and mic work just lovely.

Yes, I agree, Microsoft engineers should start to live as Canadians for a few months. There are many other bugs in the OS that could be solved by switching the region to US. Such as bugs in Groove, in MSN News, as well as in Edge. I've heard similar problems from people in Britain as well. Microsoft should pay more attention to how their products are functioning outside of US.

After updating to Build 14279 I continue getting the same errors on my HP laptop! And this ONLY applies to having Cortana set to CANADA!!

The errors do NOT show if settings changed to US.
