Question

Q: Microsoft Edge Browser pop-up status bar interferes with browsing

Using Microsoft Edge in the desktop experience on Windows 10 laptop; when the mouse hovers over a link, a status bar like window appears in the bottom left; with the link URL.  The status windows protrudes into the browser window when maximized or as a lesser sized window.  I've seen this drop below the window when the mouse got too close in some situations; but it does not always; which is interfering with me accessing some links on the page I've browsing.

Hi Erie,

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.

Try the methods below and check if it helps.

Method 1:

I suggest you clear the Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

  1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
  2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
  3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Method 2:

Try to run a System File Checker (SFC) scan to check for any file corruption. SFC scan will scan for corrupt system files on the computer and repair them.

  1. Press Windows key + X, click Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. In the Command Prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    sfc /scannow

Hope this helps. If you face any issues with Windows, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you.

Thank You.

Did you even read the post? Your reply doesn't seem to relate to it in any way.  Maybe get some coffee and have another go?

I'm having the same difficulty.  This is a NEW PC.  First time visiting the site where I'm having this difficulty (I still see the the status bar pop up at other sites too but it's only this site that has links in th e lower left corner).

Whenever my mouse is over any one of them, they all get hidden by this pop up and I'm unable to see which on I'm picking.

Or maybe just get another job because like MattOhare your suggestions are worthless.  Its like the classic joke about a Microsoft help desk operator who changes careers to the automotive industry telling everyone with car trouble of any kind "first close all the windows then restart the car."
