With build 10041, I get an error when I try to play music or video.

I have build 10041, and when I use an app to try to play music or video, I get an error saying it can’t play and get error code 0x8004c029. How do I fix this?

Hi Sharief,

This may be due to a licensing error, and may occur with the Xbox Music app, the Video app, the Netflix app, or other apps that play licensed media. You may get error code 0x8004c029. If the license is the cause of the error, you will need to delete the existing licensing information so that the app downloads it again:

 

  1. Close the app.
  2. Open File Explorer and type %localappdata% in the navigation bar and hit Enter.
  3. Open the Packages folder.
  4. Open the folder for the app you are getting the error with. For example, Microsoft.ZuneMusic_8wekyb3d8bbwe for the Xbox Music app, 4DF9E0F8.Netflix_mcm4njqhnhss8 for the Netflix app.
  5. Open the LocalState folder.
  6. Delete the PlayReady folder.
  7. Restart the app. It should download the licenses for your media, and should be able to play it again.
