Windows 10 Hdmi-Vga adapter not working

Just upgraded to windows 10.  Having a HP-laptop a 20 inch was being used during my journey with windows 7.  Now it will not work at all.  Have uninstalled / installed, checked for updates  several times but nothing works.  Anyone have any ideas?

Your title is saying HDMI-VGA adapter not working, so what is it that the laptop is not working with the HDMI adapter or the system is not working need a little more clear info, as being a HP laptop you can do a hard reset by holding the power button down until it shuts down then remove the battery and AC power adapter, now hold the power button down for 10-15 secs release,  now plug the AC adapter with out the battery power up the system and see if it is working okay it may take a few min's to complete loading, if ok install the battery.

Sorry not more clear.  Laptop is working.  when I try to configure my external monitor I see no signal from my laptop to the monitor thru the hdmi-vga adapter.  My laptop will not pick up the external device at all.

After working with AMD tech support regarding proper driver for Radeon HD 5000 and correct configuration, made driver and hardware changes recommended.  None of this helped.  Their last comment was it was a hardware problem with my computer and would require me carrying it to a repair shop.

Decided I had read enough posts regarding similar problems and that I did not have a hardware problem I reverted back to Windows 7.  In less that 15 minutes my system was working perfectly.  No more problems with flickering monitor.

Acer desktop all in one with windows 10 upgraded from windows 8. VGA to HDMI adapter will work to mirror the screen onto our VGA projector, but about every ten minutes or so, the desktop screen will flicker and the projector screen turns blue with the "no signal" notification at the bottom. After ten seconds or so, the desktop will flicker again and the picture on the projector comes back on. I have been told this is a video card driver adaptability issue in windows 10 making it incompatible with VGA adapters. How do I fix it without spending thousands of dollars on a new projector?

This may or may not help.

Check your power profile, make sure your monitor is set not to go off for as long, or, longer than you need.
