Windows 10 Automatic Repair Problem

Hi

I have a Lenovo Y510p and I was using Windows 8. Recently my Laptop got an update to Windows 10. After the update I turned off my laptop and after a few days opened it only to encounter "Automatic Repair"Image

I would really like to solve this and get back to using my laptop.

And I don't have any Windows DVD or I havent created any system restore point. And I cant Reset my PC as I have got lot of data on my Hard Disk related to my study which I cant lose at any cost.

Please help...

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

It is unfortunate that you have ended up in this situation. I will be glad to assist.

You may download the Windows 10 ISO and create a Media Creation tool and then perform Startup Repair.

Refer to the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

(Refer to the section "Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool " in the above article for creating the tool).

Once you have the installation media, follow the steps:

  1. Start your computer from the installation media. Insert the disk or USB stick and restart your computer. If you see a message asking you to “Press any key to boot from DVD,” do so. If you don’t see the message, you might need to change the boot order in your computer's BIOS settings so that it first starts from the disk or USB. When you see the 'Install Windows' page, tap or click 'Repair your computer' link to start the Windows Recovery Environment.

  2. In the Windows Recovery Environment, on the Choose an option screen, click 'Troubleshoot'.

  3. Click, Advanced Options and then click on 'Startup Repair'.

  4. After this complete the repair and see if you are able to boot in to your computer.

I hope this helps you. If you have any further query in future, feel free to contact us. We will be happy to help you.

Thank you.

I did some research and I tried to access the SrtTrail.txt file.

Here are the screenshots

At the bottom line it says repair is not compatible with  OS.

Now I have typed 'ver' in command prompt and got the response as Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10240]

Now how do I know what version to download.

In your description, it's not completely clear whether or not the upgrade to Windows 10 completely finished and you were able to boot into Windows 10 to complete the setup.  That raises the possibility that the upgrade wasn't completed.  The error message certainly suggests that at least part of the system is still trying to use files from your previous version, or was trying to roll back to the previous version but didn't complete that.  Also, it certainly doesn't sound as though the Windows 10 installation had a chance to get activated.

In addition to running Startup Repair from the Windows 10 DVD, I think you should get a Windows 8 (or 8.1) DVD and try running Startup Repair from that.  If that works, great.  As far as Startup Repair is concerned, the N, KN, Home, and Pro edition variations don't matter, though they do matter a lot if you want to do a reinstall.

Otherwise, things are a mess and you probably need to a clean reinstall of Windows 8 (or 8.1) and restore your data from a backup.  Once that is up and running, try the Windows 10 upgrade again when things are calmer.  If you don't have a backup, remove the hard drive, move it to a different computer as a non-boot disk, and copy off your data.  Then put it back in the original computer and do a clean install.

My upgrade to windows 10 was ok I guess because I was able to log into windows 10 after the upgrade. I shut down my laptop after the upgrade and when I opened my laptop I am encountering the problem.

I tried another method. I tried to log in using Windows 8.1 and now it is throwing up an error.. See the image below

I am really frustrated with all this. Engineers at Microsoft only have the solution to wipe my hard drive.

My exams are near and I cant use my pc.
