Windows 10 and IEEE 1394 FireWire Legacy Drivers (Unable to Install the 8.1 drivers)

I have a soundcard that requires the firewire legacy drivers. My Windows 10 upgrade went very well except I have not been able to get the legacy drivers to install.

In Windows 8, the driver stack for the 1394 legacy devices was separated from the regular installation (see

"FireWire port-based device does not work correctly in Windows 8.1 or Windows 8",  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2970191).

Running the Windows 8 driver installer In Windows 10, however, does not seem to work properly. A small window pops up then disappears. It says: "Please wait until Windows configures 1394 OHCI compliant host controller (legacy)." It disappears almost immediately. Too quick to read certainly. I tried to take a screenshot but failed.

No word if the drivers have been installed anywhere. I can't find the location and it is not coming up on search.

Anyone have success in getting the 1394 Firewire legacy drivers to install on Windows 10?

Thanks for your help.

Looking forward to getting sound back.

Vern

Focusrite has discontinued support for this. I called them. It will not work with Windows 10

According to Focusrite website:

We have become aware of a connectivity issue running Saffire units on Windows 10 connected to firewire cards with a VIA chipset. We are currently investigating this issue as a top priority.

Had the same issue with my audio interface, a Tascam FW-1884.  Because Tascam seems to forget people use audio hardware for more than 3 years, I know it's imposible to have new drivers.  Thankfully, with the legacy driver, it works perfectly.

Thanks a lot!

Hi All,

Just upgraded to Windows 10.

Managed to get my Focusrite Saffire firewire soundcard working again using these 3 steps:

1. Install legacy 1394 driver from:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44219

then navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)\x64_driver

right click on Legacy1394.inf and choose install

2. Disable driver signature enforcement - Most important this was what solved it for me

Follow the steps listed at this link (steps 1 and 2):

http://tivadj-tech.blogspot.in/2012/09/certificate-check-error-when-installing.html

3. Now re-run saffire-2.71.exe installer downloaded from Focusrite

This time the installer will succeed to install the 2 focusrite saffire drivers (with "Windows can't verify publisher of this driver software" warnings, just choose install anyway).

Enjoy!!!

Dasselbe Problem, bei mir war es notwendig, den bestehenden Driver im Gerätemanager  zu deinstallieren. Dann funktionierte die Installation des legacy Drivers.

I have tried for 3 days to get my firewire for my xh-al to help. I called tech support and they have not been helpful. Canon tech has been assisting me with what is clearly an Microsoft issue.

I have downloaded the driver because I had windows 8.1 then it was not working so I downloaded 10.0

device manager

IEEE 1394 host controllers

right clicked on 1394 OHCI Compliant host controllers (Legacy)

Update driver software

Browse my computer

Let me pick

I un-clicked show compatible hardware

and click on 1394 OHCI Compliant host controllers

Found the legacy driver in my programs

ran it and it still does not work

Can someone please assist.

Thanks so much for this. I was getting ready to spend $250 to upgrade to a Saffire Pro 14 when I saw this. Now my older Saffire works fine. I owe you one! I printed your post and added it to my Saffire folder for the future.

Goodmorning everyone,

I have a problem, I just entered the Firewire card. I have windows 10.
Device appears on OHCI and I installed the drive OHCI 1394 Legacy and updated.

But when I connect the cable IEEE1394 from the camera Sony MiniDV Digital Camcorder Sony DCR-HC16E by 1394 Firewire cable 6-pin (PC input) at the 1394 4-pin (camera output) do not appear on the video explorer or some message.

You know something of what I do wrong?

Thanks for your help

After I did this it said that it completed successfully but the 1394 port does not show up on the device manager?  The port is on a Dell Precisson work station.
