Hi Hanish,

I’ll be glad to help you with this.

I suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

  1. First you need a video cable for making the physically connection. For better picture quality, you should connect the computer to the TV using standard VGA ports or via the DVI to HDMI cable provided your TV supports these ports.
  2. Open the "display settings" in your computer and activate output to the TV screen. You can either mirror content of your computer on the TV or extend the display just like a dual monitor screen.
  3. Pick up your TV remote and switch to "External Inputs" from the menu. You will need to change the default "Video 1" to a different selection which may be "HDMI 1" or "Video 2" depending on how you have made the connection.

Important: Make sure you connect the cable to the TV before turning on the computer as sometimes it may fail to recognize external display.

You may also need to change the screen resolution of your TV using the Display settings in your Control Panel else the picture may appear distorted.

Hope this information helps. Post back the status of the issue.

The reply misses the point.

Windows 10 upgrade has disabled my HDMI port. The driver has been removed and I cannot find a replacement.

This is for a Dell Inspiron N 7110.

I had exactly the same problem.  I have the ASUS Vivo PC VM42, before upgrading to Windows 10, the Windows 8.1 worked fine.  After the upgrading and rebooting, all I can see on TV is HDMI no signal.
After weeks of struggling (I even sent it back to ASUS), I realized the display frequency was set to 62MHz as default in Windows 10, which my old TV doesn't support.  All I had to do is running the Windows update in a friend's place using his NEWER TV and network, so that I can see and choose the 59 or 60 MHz option. Here's the path:
Start > Settings > System > Display > Advanced Display Settings > Display Adapter Properties > Monitor > Screen Refresh Rate
When I brought it home and connected back to my old TV, it worked.
By the way, mine is a very old TV ASUS TLW320001 bought around 2008.  If you had the same problem, don't rush to buy a new TV or monitor.  Just use a newer display device and do the Windows Update.

When I sent my PC back to ASUS to check, the servicing person told me he could see the screen without a problem, so they sent it back to me.  But there's still no signal on my TV, therefore I bought a new HDMI line, still not working.  Then I brought my PC to a friend's place, and it's working on his newer TV.  That's when I guessed it could be the display settings that caused the problem.  After a few trial and error, I found the solution. Hope it helped.

The Display settings on my laptop does not offer any way to select an additional monitor output... It seems to be a software issue with Windows 10

Not helpful.  Ever since I upgraded to windows 10, I can't display with HDMI, even after four-plus hours with MS support.
