I found a way and successfully upgraded from 26040 to 26080, and everything seems fine so far.

The method mainly comes from: https://www.reddit.com/r/windowsinsiders/comments/1bcstn6/bug_cant_update_windows_11_insider_preview/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

"

1. Attain an ISO of 26040

*You can use https://uupdump.net/ to build an ISO of 26040.

2. Extract the ISO to someplace like c:\Win11

3. Download an ISO of the current release preview (as of writing this is 26080)

4. Replace the install.wim from 26040's extracted ISO (c:\win11\sources\install.wim) with the install.wim from 26080 (or latest build)

5. run c:\Win11\setup.exe and do an upgrade as usual and the install will complete.

"

In fact, I guess that it may work if you throw 26080's install.wim into any recent iso decompression file.

However, note that after I installed 26080 through this method, the windows HDCP service stopped working in a complicated way. I tried many methods: driver reinstall, ipconfig, iprenew, restarting the HDCP service, and modifying the registry, but none of them worked. Finally, I remounted the original iso of 26080 without network connection and used setup.exe to complete the installation again, and the problem was solved. I'm not sure if this problem occurs to everyone or just me.

Hi humul,

You can download Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26080 (Canary and Dev Channels) | Windows Insider Blog from Windows.

Also you can run setup from within Windows which keeps docs, settings, etc

If that still has an issue I would look at the hardware and how you have Windows setup.

I found an interesting fix for this problem from Feedback Hub Mark R post.
Finally resolve this problem without losing anything. For this instance, I need to modify the ISO of build 26058 because it is the in-place upgrade!

0k here I simplified this process of the in-place upgrade from 26040 to 26100!

Step 01:
1. Grab the ISO of 26058
*You can use https://uupdump.net/
2. Extract the ISO to someplace like c:\Win11 -to modify it later
3. Download an ISO of the current release canary channel insider preview build (as of writing this is 26080)
4. Replace the boot.wim and install.wim files in directory of the extracted ISO (c:\win11\sources\...wim) from build 26080.
*l utilized a program named Any Burn for this task, but feel free to choose any ISO editor that you prefer.

Step 02:
To perform a Windows command-line update with the specified parameters, follow these steps:
1. Open Command Prompt or PowerShell as per your case (as administrator).
2. Navigate to the directory where the Windows 11 setup executable is located (e.g., type command prompt cd c:\Win11).
3. Run the following command:

```
.\setup.exe /auto upgrade /dynamicupdate disable /migratedrivers none
```

Explanation of parameters:

- `/auto`: Automatically upgrades the existing Windows installation.

- `/dynamicupdate`: Disables dynamic updates during the upgrade process.

- `/migratedrivers`: Does not migrate drivers during the upgrade.

Make sure to run this command with administrative privileges and follow any prompts that appear during the upgrade process. 🚀

If you have any more questions or want to share your experiences, feel free to get in touch! 😊
