Please, provide a solution to this problem, we are on 10 of August and you have not said anything!

Peter F.Mayer's posts explain exactly what is the problem, and as BuckNC said would be great if you find a solution instead of saying that we have to try to disable and enable devices or reboot our computer... , because it doesn't work!!

Thank you

I have the identical problem.  I'm using a Dell computer and after I upgraded to windows 10 my Realtek pcie gbe family controller worked fine, UNTIL I turned the computer on the morning of 8/9.  The Realtek controller shows "The device cannot start. (Code 10).  I've tried to remove the item and reinstall the driver several times to no avail.  I used the windows restore point back to the day after I installed windows 10 (when it was working) and although system restore worked fine I still get the same error message.   The latested message I've received in the "Events" section for the controller shows the following:

Device PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_816810EC&REV_02\4&22bd4e0b&0&00E2 requires further installation.

I don't know if the issue is with Windows 10 or what but don't understand how it could work for several days then mysteriously just stop working.  Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have two Related network adaptors on a Gigabyte motherboard.  After installing Win 10, both adaptors gradually shut down and simply disappeared from Device Manager.  Attempts to reinstall the driver failed with an error message stating something about deep sleep mode and disconcerting a cable.  Disconnecting the network cables did nothing.  Eventually, after virtually trashing the system, I tried disabling the "Green LAN" function in the bios and both adaptors popped back into life.  It seems Win 10 allows the adaptors to slip into deep sleep mode and doesn't wake them up.  So, check your bios and see if you have a similar function in the Power Management section.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response.  Unfortunately my dell's bios doesn't have a "green lan" feature.  My problem appears to be with the driver's compatibility with windows 10.  How it would work for a few days and then stop working I have no idea.  In device manager the card is visable but cannot connect and has a problem code 0000000a.   I plugged in a wireless usb adapter to connect to the internet via wifi and updated the drivers per other suggestions but didn't help.  Hope yours keeps working ok but I think there might be a compatibility issue with windows 10 and the driver.  Thanks again.

Everyone,

I found a solution that I tested and verified it works.  Please try it yourself as any suggestions that the Microsoft Support Engineers have made so far have been pointless.

This method has been added specially for Windows 10 users who upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 and can't see any wireless network available in the list:

1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run following commands one by one:

reg delete HKCR\CLSID\{988248f3-a1ad-49bf-9170-676cbbc36ba3} /va /f
netcfg -v -u dni_dne

2. Close Command Prompt and open Network Connections folder again and now it should show all network adapters without any problem.

NOTE: Many readers have reported the error 0x80004002 while executing the second command. The error may occur if the Registry key was not successfully deleted by the first command. In such condition, you'll need to delete the Registry key manually using following steps shared by our reader "Scott French":

1. Type regedit in RUN or Start search box and press Enter. It'll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{988248f3-a1ad-49bf-9170-676cbbc36ba3}

3. While you are on {988248f3-a1ad-49bf-9170-676cbbc36ba3} key, press Delete key to delete the key from Registry.

4. Now run the second command netcfg -v -u dni_dne in Command Prompt and it should work.

I have an HP HDX 18 laptop with the RealTek PCIe GBE Family Controller.  Like others in this thread, it went dead when I installed Windows 10.  I ran the reg delete command and got the error message that the key doesn't exist.  I then tried the netcfg and it says "dni_dne is not installed".   My RealTek controller is a hardwired Ethernet (cable) adapter.  Your post above refers to "Wireless adapters not appearing in the Network Connections folder".  I don't have a wifi adapter on this laptop.  And my RealTek is appearing in network connections.  So I not sure if this solution should even apply to my problem.  Any idea why I do not have the registry key and/or why dni_dne is not installed?

Everything worked fine until Win10.  I bought a USB-Ethernet adapter, and that works (although slow since I only have USB 2.0 on this machine).  But it does verify that the ethernet cable/connection/etc is working fine.  It's definitely the adapter/driver.  I also uninstalled the adapter device from Windows and rebooted.  No change.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Jerry
