Installing Build 10.0.10536.1004

All,

There will likely be some questions about the install of the new 10536.1004 build, so I wanted to create this thread to clarify the update process for this build.

Users on 8.1:

- You will jump directly to the new build.  8.1 -> 10.0.10536.1004

Users on Win10 Build 10536.1003:

- A very small group of users received the .1003 build we didn't officially release last Friday.  This build was pulled back because of an update bug that prevents users from installing newer builds.  If you are on this build and your device scans for the .1004 build, you will see error 8018830f on your device.  Unfortunately, you will need to use the Windows Phone Recovery Tool (WPRT)) and flash back to 8.1.

Users on Win10 Build 10512:

- You will see two hops to get to build 10.0.10536.1004.

First update screen will show two interim builds coming down (10514 and 10536.1000).

Once that portion of the install completes, you'll get a second install showing build 10536.1004.  This is the "landing" build and when this portion of the install is finished, you'll be on the newest build.

Going through this process will take you a bit longer to get to the newest build, but with the changes and bug fixes, it'll be worth the effort.  It also helps us gain testing coverage on multi-hop updates.

Please post up any questions and be sure to share your feedback on the build via the Feedback app!

Thank you as always Insiders!

- Jason

My Lumia 532 was also stuck at 0% till the end of the download, then it started directly preparing to install & failed at 7%. Rebooted & got a message that the download was corrupt or didn't finish, so I am re-downloading right now. Also after the reboot my Start is stuck on the black "Loading" message & when I receive a notification from an app, the app name (e.g. Twitter) is not shown, but rather its powershell string. Used the All Settings shortcut from Notification bar to restart the download.

Second time failure. This one came with an error code "Some updates did not finish downloading. We'll keep trying. Error code: 0x80246007". Re-downloading for a third time. Also noticed that after each reboot my time was two hours behind my timezone, though the time/date settings are set to automatic, so had to edit it. The date is correct at least.

Upgrading to 1004 Bricked my 1020. Had only upgrade from WP8.1 to insider preview yesterday, so don't think I had .1003.

Reported error finding boot configuration, in a DOS style error screen.

Recovering to 8.1 now, anyone else having issues before I try again?

The third attempt finally ended with the sad face & constant restart loop, so I am recovering the phone to Windows 8.1 now.
