How to repare broken metro apps after upgrade? (app activation error logged for Twin-UI/Operational)

Using my Surface Pro 4 on Windows 10 insider builds, it broke some metro apps after upgrade multiple times. Sometimes a new build makes some apps work again, sometimes it break others. 

I followed multiple reddit posts/tutorials/shell/powershell commands to no avail, such as:

The app crash error can be narrowed down to Twin-UI windows event log, for example (sorry for the french):

  • L'activation via le service d'assistance de contrat de l'application 57858MessageAcrossStudios.Readit_nts9jg5frnds0!App pour le contrat Windows.Launch a échoué avec Échec de l’exécution du serveur.
  • Échec de l’activation de l’application 57858MessageAcrossStudios.Readit_nts9jg5frnds0!App pour le contrat Windows.Launch avec l’erreur : L’application n’a pas démarré..
  • ActivateApplicationForContractByAppIdAsUserWithHost de l'application 57858MessageAcrossStudios.Readit_nts9jg5frnds0!App pour le contrat Windows.Launch a échoué avec L’application n’a pas démarré..


Before re-installing the last insider build from scratch, can you confirm there is no other fail-proof solution, or solution I didn't try that worked for you in a similar case.

Have you checked the suggestion replied by Jason on Feb-13-2016, if not please try and check, if this helps and see if this fixes the issue.

The culprit was CCleaner. Nothing to do but a full reinstall. Tried every other method possible unsuccessfully.
