Can I set my VPN conection to connect automatically when I log on?

I have a VPN connection set up in Windows 10 build 15019 and I am wanting it to connect automatically. Right now I am having to go into settings, network & internet, VPN, and manually connect. Is this possible?

Answer

Generally, devices you wanted to connect to a VPN connection should be set manually. The steps we provided you only allows your device to automatically detect the username and password you set to your VPN connection.

If you really want to set your device to automatically connect to a VPN network, we recommend you use Task Scheduler. This will allow you to schedule your device to connect and disconnect to a VPN connection using rasdial.exe command.

Kindly follow the steps below:

  1. Type Task Scheduler in the search bar.
  2. Click Task Scheduler.
  3. On the pop-up window, under Actions tab, click Create Task....
  4. General Tab.
    1. Provide a logical name for the task such as Auto VPN.
    2. Under Security options, click Run wether user is logged on or not.
    3. Click Run with highest privileges.
    4. On the Configure for drop-down, select Windows 10.
  5. Triggers Tab.
    1. Click New....
    2. On Begin the task drop-down, select At startup.
    3. (Optional) Enable Delay task for and set to 5 minutes. This gives your device a chance to idle down before connecting to the VPN.
  6. Actions Tab.
    1. Click New....
    2. Under Program/script:, type c:\windows\system32\rasdial.exe. You can also browse your files if your default Windows install directory is different.
    3. On Add arguments (optional) field, enter the VPN connection name. If the VPN connection name has spaces, you need to wrap it in quotes. You may also need to append the VPN connection's username and password if they are required.
  7. Conditions Tab.
    1. Untick all the options under this tab.
  8. Click OK, and restart your PC.

Let us know if it works.

Thanks.
