Add winRAR support to Windows 10?

Isn't it about time to include RAR file support? There has to be integration that you can include, 7-zip and WinRAR have been around for some time, and obviously with the option of 7-zip there must be some open source licensing option for getting native RAR file support.

I only ask because this has been a missing feature for the better part of 10 years.

almost none of the windows user base use RAR as the modern internet can handle larger file so there isn't a need to chop them up into smaller pieces which is what RAR was used for.  there just isn't any sort of demand for it ... i bet 99.999999 % of the user base doesn't even know what RAR is ... it's a dead technology like the newgroups they used to populate

rar is very far from dead. It is actually a far better compression method, that can compress files in most cases to smaller sizes than zip. 7z is a far better compression method as well. There may be some copyright issues with them that keep them from being implemented into Windows.

options are good, user choice is good,
those who know what rar and zip are don't normally rely on integrated features,
I buy winzip pro because the integrated zip functionality of xp - 10 doesn't support things like password or splitting etc.
plus the last time I tried adding files to a "compressed zip folder" using the integrated feature, resulted in 2 problems,
the archive is corrupt, and the files vanished,
now I had neither a zip file nor the files I was trying to zip
I find the lack of configuration options disturbing !

I'm mostly looking for basic file support, as in at least being able to open them for extraction. As for its current state RAR is very much alive with a majority or game modding sites using RAR files or zip, my Asus motherboard drivers are even downloaded in RAR format.

The driver files for my brand-new Windows 8.1+Bing tablet were supplied in rar format.  I used 7-zip to inspect them.

And, incidentally, I prefer newsgroups to the advert-laden gui-based message areas, but Microsoft never seem to have understood them.

I think it is about time that more windows users are interested and capable users that would benefit from RAR support.

I need it for business purposes. I guess I might need to find a way to use Linux for all of my business use and get rid of windows. There is also Apple.... Maybe I should buy a Mac Pro and not a Surface.

MS is going down a path to nuke the capable / knowledgeable users

they want to convert everyone from running self contained full windows installations to
thin client chromebook style devices with monthly payments to use them
which will not boot or run without an active net connection nor will they boot or run if your account is overdue

this is the direction MS is attempting to steer the computing industry to

I find the lack of configuration options disturbing !
