0xc0000001 when trying to install 18298

Hi there,

I tried to install the latest build but (I assume after the first restart while updating) Windows is not booting up anymore.

In use are an Acer Aspire and an Acer Iconia W701.

Both devices just show the Acer logo and nothing happens. Powering down the devices and restarting results in a blue screen after a few tries.

0xc0000001

Therefore I postponed the update of my other devices.

Tried Safe Mode = same behavior.

Built in recovery tools = Acer logo and "please wait" indefinitely.

Booting from stick = just an empty blue screen

created a new USB stick with the latest build = no recovery tools given

Created another USB stick with the latest release build = recovery tools are there, automatic repair does not work, bootrec /fixboot gives an access denied

Anyone else having similar issues?

And the villain seems to be BitLocker.

I tried to use recovery tools and I was denied access to my HDD even if the key was entered manually.

I crosschecked with my one device without Bitlocker. Update worked like a charm.

Same issue here on Acer Aspire V3-371, but no bitlocker. I even fully reinstalled windows 10, tried to update to 18298 but I'm stuck on Acer Logo

The reason seems not to be Bitlocker.

I was able to remove it by command line through recovery tools.

Tried again afterwards and again Acer logo only.

The issue seems to be the access to bootrec. As soon as I fixed that via diskpart and copying the EFI files from disk to the 300MB partition I am able to start the computer again.

Here is the How to: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/windows-10-bootrec-fixboot-access-is-denied/747c4180-7ff3-4bc2-b6cc-81e572d546df

but the installation is not happening. You get back into Windows and have to relaunch the update, which leads to the hanger at Acer logo.

No chance to install this build on my Acer devices.

And how is this related to my issue?

Problem is with 18298, not with 18290.

You are welcome.

Strangely I was able to update my old Aspire without problems.

So no Acer problem in general.

As my Iconia has only one HDD drive built in and installation failed there, too, this seems not to be related to having more than one built in drive. Some builds ago this prevented updates.

Finally I have gotten a real error message.

When booting up the latest ISO in Windows, starting the update, you get another hanger at the Acer logo. If you fix the UEFI afterwards (see the link above) and boot back into Windows you get this error:

Had the same problem on my old Acer Aspire E1-771G. Had to reinstall my Acer. Something else had not worked so that this was my only option.

My Iolo System Shield real-time protection has indicated that build 18298 came with a MBR virus called Mebroot in the software distribution.
