Can't install Internet Explorer 9 on Vista, get an error that it's not supported

Tried to install IE9 on Windows Vista.  Got an error message saying it's not supported, have to install updates.  My updates are current, SP 2.  The support page it sends me to has some problems listed, none of which make any sense to me.  I don't understand why IE9 doesn't just install the needed updates so it can download.  Installing a new version of Explorer has been a pretty straightforward thing in the past.  Any way to get a download that works?  Thanks.

Hi, Bjcreek,

Which Internet Explorer version are you using?  Internet Explorer 7?  or 8?

Tools > About Internet Explorer

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Reset Button

Check Delete All Personal Files

Press Reset

Press Ok

Reboot Computer

First to ensure there are no remnants from aborted installs, right click on Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator

Type the following command

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

press Enter

Retype the command and press enter again.

Reboot computer and retry installing IE 9 from this link
