What symptoms do you see when you try?   You could use the IE9 Network Capture or Fiddler2 to supplement your symptom description.

Please try to refine your symptom description with the following diagnostic procedure.   Use Security Settings.  Custom Level  to change any setting which is currently Enabled and has a Prompt to Prompt.  Then try clicking on a Fox News Video link and record your prompts and your responses.   Because we are only setting to Prompt settings which are already Enabled you can safely choose either case for your test.

Because Scripting is so prevalent on that site it is actually simpler to try two separate test scenarios:  one with Active Scripting set to Prompt (with all the other normally Enabled settings set to Prompt) and one with Active Scripting set to Enabled (as the only exception to the diagnostic).

FWIW I think I can reproduce your symptom by replying No to the first prompt with the Active Scripting Enabled case.   Strangely I don't get an expected second prompt if I reply Yes to that one.   It just immediately starts the video, even if I add the supplementary setting to  Enable Prompt for ActiveX controls.   Oh.  There is another one that probably needs to be disabled for Foxnews:  Only allow approved domains...   Nope.   Even that's not enough.   No more prompts after the first one.   YMMV.   This may be a consequence of the browser being in IE9 mode (instead of an emulation mode) but I won't bother testing that hypothesis now.

BTW there was something strange about the Active Scripting case though too.   Mixed in with all the prompts I got a message about a certificate error which never is seen otherwise.   YMMV.

You need to have JavaScript enabled to use this page. below Google search box on goggles’ home page.

You must have JavaScript enabled to watch video

I uninstalled all old java files and reinstalled the latest java 6.27 file.

Also checked out java settings in the control panel.

With Active Scripting set to enabled and all the other normally enabled settings set to Prompt.

After google and choosing foxnews the page went to foxnews much quicker without all the clicking of the boxes but choosing video still left me with a big black video box doing nothing with no message.

Without Active Scripting Prompt I get two prompts and then an ad video.  Are you suppressing ads?

BTW sorry I forgot to reply as soon as I had read this but I only thought of the suppressed ad angle later.   ; )

Also, I haven't seen any Java on that site so think you didn't need to do anything about that.   (Javascript is a completely different language from Java and has a totally different implementation.)

  • I don't receive video or an ad on foxnews video page.
  • Elevated administration rights and restarted regsvr32 jscript.dll and this took care of the java script error msgs.
  • Foxnews uses straight flash to play its videos.
  • Not sure which ads are suppose to be there and which are supposed to be blocked.
  • I have for a short time disabled norton, don't have ad-block.
  • What could be blocking flash from playing in foxnews.
  • Also adobe had a few tips to follow but to no avail.

Yes but the first video before the featured one is always an ad and I suspect that if you are blocking ads (e.g. by domain name) that could stop you from seeing its video, then not seeing that video would prevent you from seeing the featured one.

But first please clarify if you saw those two prompts because if you don't see those (when prompting for them) there would be no wonder that you weren't seeing the ActiveX control (e.g. Flash program) that they represent.

I suppose another thing you could try is using the Developer Tools Find tool to see what that black box that you see is.   E.g. press F12, Ctrl-b, box that black box and click then capture the HTML involved with right-click Copy OuterHTML.

In fact, I think I could try that myself with prompting...

Unfortunately I can't stop it when just the box is showing.   The whole thing is quite big so I won't paste it in here.

Another thing that you could do with the IE9 Developer Tools is use its Network trace tool.

Good luck

When prompting into the video foxnews I don't get the ad nor do i get the video. Same results.

Not sure what to do here - Not getting the box to box the black box and don't see copy outer html.
