the dot in download filenames always gets changed to an underline

I don't remember what I changed, but I have been having a problem downloading installers.  When I try to download an installer package, the dot before the extension name in the download filename always gets changed to an underline.  Because of this, I get asked only where I want to save (or save as) the file.  I usually ''save as'' to the desktop, so I can rename it and run it manually.  But this does not work when a webpage wants to install an Active-X plugin directly.  Then, the thing fails to run.  I've been looking for the solution for a couple of days, but have not found what was changed to cause this.  I looked in the Norton firewall settings and the Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer options, but I haven't figured it out yet.  If anyone knows what might cause this and has a solution, please let me know what it is.  I'm running Microsoft Windows-7 (64/32-bit) and MsIE-9 (32-bit), and the cable companys version of the Norton Security Suite 5.2.

Hi

I was facing the same problem as you, and I found a very simple solution that worked fine for me.

Take a look at this Microsoft Support issue:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2549423

It seems that it´s all about not saving encrypted pages to disk.

Just open Internet options, open the Advanced tab, and in the Security section, disable the item "Do not save encrypted pages to disk". After ding that, IE9 worked as expected.

Now I´m looking for a similar solution for Google Chrome, but that´s another story.

Regards
