Uninstall IE 8 Tab Missing In Add/Remove List

I need to uninstall & reinstall IE8 on my pc running Win XP/SP3. But on the Add/Remove Programs list under IE8, the uninstall tab is missing. The reason that I need to uninstall is that IE 8 hangs every so often. It has been suggested to me that my problem might be caused by installing IE8 before installing SP3 after my pc was in for repairs. If this is what is causing the problem, should I uninstall SP3 and see if this allows me to then uninstall IE8? Or is there another fix for this issue? Thanks.
