KMZ files downloaded as compressed folders.

Hi,

I've been messing around with .kmz files.

If I double click on the kmz file on my local hard drive, it opens in Google Earth as I'd expect and Right Click->Open With only has Google Earth in the options.  So on my local hard drive, .kmz files are working great.

However, if I click on a link like this http://caiels.com/local/ivybridge.kmz.  I get a dialogue showing a file name of ivybridge.zip and it tries to open in 'Compressed folders'.

Also if I link from http://maps.google.com/?q=http://caiels.com/local/ivybridge.kmz and click the 'view in Google Earth' option, it downloads as a zip file.

So I hope I'm asking this question in the correct place.  Why does Explorer work fine with kmz, yet Internet Explorer treats them as a zip file?   And is there anything I can put in the link to force it to download as .kmz and therefore open in Google Earth?

Thanks,
Steve.

I found an answer form another forum.

 "Thanks very much
I used the "Mime Types" utility in CPanel to do this. It added the following lines to the .htaccess file in the same directory as my kmz file:
AddType application/vnd.google-earth.kml+xml kml
AddType application/vnd.google-earth.kmz kmz"

I didn't have or use the CPanel utility, but just adding the "addType" lines to .htaccess on the web site root fixed it.

Thanks for the prompts.
Steve.
