Hi,

One of your Addons is incompatible with IE8 on Xp/ Sp?.... you should have updated to SP3 by now. If not do a Windows Update...

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it  in  an unusual way

is usually caused by old versions of the Visual C Runtime LIbraries...

Most probably you have an old version of the Google Toolbar installed. After doing a windows update (and assuming that you have anti-virus installed and have done a recent scan) go to toolbar.google.com and update the google toolbar or just uninstall it.

Alternatively go IE>Tools>Internet Options, Advanced tab, uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions". Close all IE windows and then restart it.

If you don't have any up-to-date anti-virus programs installed take your computer to a reputable computer repair shop and have it scanned and also checked for rootkit infections.

Regards.

Hi  IE,

I don't use the google toolbar so that shouldn't be the issue - also have SP3 & PCTOOLS Spyware Dr. w/antivirus.   Still think I should uncheck 3rd party browser extensions?  This only started  happening recently for me & hasn't done it in awhile.

Thanks

Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode?

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer (No add-ons).

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings & reboot?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

3. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current?  What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?  What third-party firewall (if any)?

4. Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine?

5. Did a Norton or McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

Try #1 and/or #2 for a while then give me a status report.

Also tell me:

1. When (approx. date) was Spyware Doctor with Antivirus installed?

2. What anti-virus application was installed BEFORE you installed Spyware Doctor with Antivirus and was your subscription still current when you uninstalled it?

1. Mcafee  I believe was around last day or two days before expiration when Spyware Dr installed.

2. No, did not use Mcafee Removal Tool - was not aware of it or that I need to do that. I did uninstall Mcafee first.

McAfee (and Norton) applications are notorious for not uninstalling (or upgrading) cleanly.

1. Download the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

2. Close all open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar).

3. Double-click on the file you saved in #1 above to run the utility. Don't TOUCH your keyboard until the run completes, then reboot.

4. Open IE8 (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 & run the Fix It.

5. Reboot & test.
