Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet Sitehttp://www.facebook.com/?ref=home. - Operation aborted.

The last few days on both our computers, we keep getting a pop up saying internet explorer cannot open the internet site http://www.facebook.com/ref=home.  Operation aborted.

I was already in facebook at the time. After working on an app, I hit the home button and get this message. It is happening on both our home computers and has even happened while I was in myspace.

Im using IE7 and have windows vista.  Is there a fix for this or is it an internet explorer problem, as usual.

Hi,

Try adding these to your trusted sites in IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security - Trusted Sites.

https://www.facebook.com/

http://www.facebook.com/

What antivirus/antispyware/security product do you have on machine? Include any you have EVER has on this
machines including those you uninstalled (they leave remnants behind which can cause strange issues).

If no joy something maybe blocking it.

Start - All Programs - Accessores - System Tools - IE with no Addons - does this work better?

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Tab - click Restore then click Reset - Apply / OK

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security Tab -  click reset all zones to default - Apply / OK

Close and restart IE and/or IE with no addons

any better?

IE - Tools - Manage Addons (for sure disable SSV2 if it is there, this is no longer needed but Java still installs it
and it causes issues - you ever update Java go back in and disable it again.) Look for other possible problems.

Windows Defender - Tools - Software Explorer - look for issues with programs that do not look right. Permitted
are usually OK and "not permitted" are not always bad. If in doubt about a program ask about it here.

Could be a BHO - BHOremover - Free - standalone program, needs no install, download and run - not all
are bad however some can cause your issue (Toolbars are BHO's).

Try these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.

Run DiskCleanup - Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup

Start - type in Search box -  COMMAND   find at top of list -  RIGHT CLICK  -  RUN AS ADMIN

I had the same problem (and generalised errors in displaying items) since the recent Micrsoft upgrades. Followed Facebooks intructions
Go to page on internet explorer, compatibility view and add Facebook.com and cleared all browsing history and cookies and it seems to have resolved the issue.

Good luck.

I have tried everything, and nothing is working. Im still getting the pop up saying it cannot open it. Im in facebook already when it happens. I come out of an app and go to the home button and thats when it pops up. I did a system restore and that didnt help. Would be nice if there was a decent internet explorer. 75% of the time when I do updates, it screws everything up. Im not happy with Vista either.

Try to upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 and update your Windows Vista and install the latest service pack and everything offered by Windows update.

Thank you. I will try that. I had IE 8 before and kept getting the message Internet Explorer not responding. More often then with IE7. So I went back to IE7. I also tried firefox, chrome and others, and kept getting the same message as with IE8 and 7.

In this case try to run Internet Explorer without add-on->start al program or programs->system tools ->internet explorer (no add-on)
or in Windows 7/Windows Vista type Internet Explorer and chose no add-on and see if problem happen or not.
Try to check problem and solution center and update everything that asked.

Try to go to tools->manage add-on (in IE8) and disable add-on that you don't need.
Send add reports that ask to be send.
