Internet Explorer cannot display website. HTTP Error 12029...cannot connect to internet.

I am currently running windows xp off a home wireless network with Internet Explorer.  I have made no recent changes to my notebook. I am currently running AVG antivirus. When I log on to the internet it will not connect. It shows a good connection but will not log on. If I log off and use a Guest log on I am able to log on to the internet.  If I google a website, it repeatedly redirects to some other site.  AVG does not detect any virus.  What's going on? How do I fix it?

Hi bookum,

Since when are you facing this issue?

You may try the below methods and check if this helps.

Method 1:

I would suggest you to disable all the settings for the LAN settings especially Proxy settings. Follow the below steps to perform the procedure-

1. Open Internet Explorer. Click on Internet Options and go to the Connections tab.
2. Click on the button LAN settings and uncheck all the options present in the opened window.

Method 2:

Check if the IP address is getting assigned automatically and not manually. You may refer to the below mentioned link and enable the option to assign the addresses automatically -

Method 3:

I would suggest you to use the ping command from the command prompt and check if you are receiving the data packets properly –

You may refer to the below provided XP article and use the “ping” command as provided in the article in Method 2  and check if you are able to connect properly-
