Question

Q: How do I reset auto complete for a particular web site???

I'm running IE8, went to a web site that requiers a user id/password. I entered them and when IE8 asked me if I wanted to save the id/password I said no. I'd like to change this now and have IE8 save the id and password but cant figure out how to do it. I dont really want to delete all of my other/existing autocomplete info (I have autocomplete info for a number of other sites already saved).

How can I tell autocomplete I've changed my mind about a particular site and would like it to save my id and password?

Hi Karltl,

Try these steps and check if it helps:

i.           Open Internet explorer

ii.         Click on tools

iii.       Select Internet options

iv.        Click on security tab and click on custom level tab

v.          Scroll till the end of the window and select “Prompt for user name and password”

vi.        Check the option and restart Internet explorer

You can even try the below steps:

i.           Navigate to Tools/Internet Options/Content/AutoComplete Settings, and check all the options listed in this location

ii.         Next navigate to Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted Sites and add all the sites you go, that you trust of course, and require login/pass. This will help the AutoComplete section.

iii.       Once done with this step, head over to the Privacy Tab, click on the Advance button and tick "Override automatic cookie handling" and use "Prompt for both First Party & Third Party Cookies.

For the next couple or few weeks, this will be a bit annoying as every time you go into a site, it will ask you whether or not you want to set/allow a cookie instead of just ____ you with it. After a while, you will no longer get ask since you always visit the same sites with the exception of the new sites you visit.

The only easy case is when you have allowed AutoComplete to save the userid
but not the password. Then you can delete the userid in the same way that
you can delete any AutoComplete form item and you would then be prompted
that you were deleting a userid/password pair (where the password was not
saved and always prompted). Otherwise, you might be lucky and be able to
reset that login by deleting the site's Cookies. I would use ProcMon in
conjunction with PSPV to try to figure out any other workarounds.
Typically I think you will see that there are hidden registry values and
that the only control of them the user has is deleting all saved passwords.

Good luck
