Can't install Flash Player in IE 8

Flash Player quit working completely over this past weekend and I got the message that I didn't have the current version of Flash Player installed on my computer.

I've tried uninstalling and installing Flash Player but I all I get in the Adobe Download Manager screen is Error: Installation Failed.

I can install Flash Player through Firefox and Safari so I beleive this is an issue with Internet Explorer 8.

I really need some help. I've tried everything I can think of to fix this issue and spent 3 hours on the phone with Adobe Support.

Thanks any help.

Cindy

Let's get rid of everything, install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) & see how things are working. Later on, if you want, you can uninstall MSE & then reinstall either the Webroot application or the Trend Micro application (but not both).

[You will want to print these instructions for offline reference. There will be a LOT of rebooting so be patient.]

Preparatory step: Familiarize yourself with...

HOW TO turn the Windows Firewall on or off
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

1. Download the following removal tools, saving each to your desktop:

   Norton Removal Tool: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

   McAfee Removal Tool: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

2. Close all open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar).

3. IMPORTANT! => Physically disconnect the computer from the internet and/or any local networks!

4. Uninstall the Trend Micro application via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (orControl Panel | Programs and Features, if using Classic view) & reboot.

5. Uninstall the Webroot application & reboot.

IMPORTANT! => Enable the Windows Firewall immediately after rebooting. (Should happen automatically, even though you're not connected to the internet, but I want you to make sure it's enabled.)

6. Right-click on one of the files you saved in #1 above and select Run as Administrator to run the utility. Don't TOUCH your keyboard until the run completes, then reboot.

7. Repeat Step #6 for the other removal tool; remember to reboot.

8. Triple-check to make certain that the Windows Firewall is enabled then reconnect the computer to the internet.

IMPORTANT! => You're still "working without a net" now: Don't to ANYTHING else online (e.g., browsing; reading email; chatting) until you've completed Step #9 below!

9. Download/install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE): http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx

Make certain that updated Definitions are downloaded as part of the MSE installation process. Reboot after the installation process completes then make sure the MSE icon in the Notification Area (to the left of your clock) turns GREEN within 2-3 minutes of restarting the computer.

Should you ever need to update MSE manually, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971606

10. Reset IE8 (yes, again) by running the Fix It in this KB article then reboot yet again:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

11. If you still need to update/install Flash Player (v10.1.53.64), see the instructions I've posted here: http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=44180

12. Test. Let me know how this works out for you, please, Cindy. Good luck!
