Printer not activated error code - 20.

Shortly after a microsoft update, I tried printing an adobe document and received the error message.  I had no problems printing prior to the update. The other answers in this forum are not helpful to me (I don't know what a UAC is). Other internet research mentioned registry issues, but I am afraid to download programs I may not need.  What should I do? I am not computer literate, so please do not give answers that assume computer knowledge.

Who is the printer manufacturer?

The error may be caused if the wrong printer is set as the default printer, the printer driver is missing, or if there are conflicts in the device manager.

Step 1:


Make sure the desired printer is set as the default printer


Step 2:


Re-install the USB Composite Device from Device Manager

a.      ClickStart and then Run .

b.     Type devmgmt.msc in the Run window and then press Enter to open the Device Manager Window.

c.      Click the plus sign (+) next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

d.     Right clickUSB Composite Device , click Uninstall , and then clickOK .

e.      Disconnect the USB cable from the computer and then reconnect it.

f.      Follow the instructions in the Found New Hardware wizard to install the drivers.

g.     Right-click the printer icon, and then clickPrint Test Page to print a Windows self-test page.

h.     Close all windows and try printing from the application you were using before.

Step 3:

You can also try runningPrinter troubleshooter and check.
