After upgrading to Windows 8 Pro, my fonts in internet explorer 10 now look quite poor

After upgrading to Windows 8 Pro, my fonts in internet explorer 10 now look quite poor. I have done cleartype tuning, and made sure that smoothing is on, but they look lousy. they looked fine when I was running windows 7 and internet explorer 9. I have updated all my drivers on the system too. I am boggled. And yes, I have also tried compatibility view. ;)

The fonts look off on every page. I noticed mostly on facebook though.

My computer is an Alienware X51 with a GeForce gt 545 graphics adapter.

I really do not want to have to go through a bunch of steps to do a pic here. Here is a link to the pic: http://carltonec.com/pics/image1.jpg

Also, I just checked them in Mozilla Firefox, and they look fine. So, now I am even more confused. :)

Hey Carl

I looked at your pic and maybe my eyes are bad but I cant tell.  Can you do me a favor and make a side by side shot of the same pic IE vs. FF.

Here is a screenshot of mine using IE 10.

This picture hardly does the difference justice, but even in this small sample it is noticeable.

The one on the left is FF. The one on the right is IE10.

I think in this instance its going to come down to personal preference here. I don't think there is anything we can do here to change it. Its a different font altogether.

Not sure if this will make a difference but you could try going to but this will do it to all webpages

Tools>Internet Options>Accessibility>Check "ignore font styles on specified webpages"

The thing is, unless I am out of my mind, this did NOT look this blurry before I upgraded. Again, in that sample I posted it is hard to really tell the overall difference in clarity. There is a very noticeable difference "live", so to speak. I never saw this problem with the fonts when I was running Windows 7 and IE9. Strange I tell ya. I am not drinking any more than I was then, and I doubt my eyes got worse overnight. :) It just looks so fuzzy to me now.

Something has definitely changed. There may be nothing that can be done, but I figured it was worth asking and pointing out. I prefer to use IE over FF, but my eyes want clear text. And if FF can have clear, sharp text, I would imagine IE10 can as well.

Many user complaint about IE10's font display, search it.  I love windows 8 and now I come back to use IE and microsoft login ID again because Windows 8 but I can't live with blur font. I read on other thread in this forum, some dev said it by design (blur font) and they cannot change anything

Font look blur on IE10 , Firefox and Chrome display font sharper

See the difference

Look like IE10 doesn't use same cleartype technique in Firefox and Chrome, I see some shade coulor in FF and Chorme

Test by your eyes

Text on IE10 look blur compare to Firefox or Chrome

Bah. Anything can be changed with an update. And I hope the issue is addressed. I would think that IE10, being from Microsoft, would look the best, or at least as good.

Yes I noticed the same thing after upgrading to Windows 8. Clearly something wrong with the font. I tried all work arounds in the net, but still nothing fixed the problem.  May be some windows update will fix it?

note: I noticed the same blurry font in Outlook, and in other metro apps also. I have never had any issue in Window 7.
