Mcafee's name is about to change please don't be fooled by Intel's attempt to misguide people into thinking the issues are because of the persons name instead of the Program :)
Norton or Mcafee is the worst possible choice,
Mostly because the manufacture was Paid to have one or the other preinstalled on your machine/ Considered Junkware by many tech's and that is the hardest to remove successfully.
Even these utilities offered by these companies often fail to fully remove themselves,
They are also loaded on a System restore partition drive so in this type of environment a user/ buyer of these machines is actually buying a Inferior version of Windows full system restore will never really give you any positive benefit.
Manufactures and either of these security suite will only blame windows for any issue regarding dysfunction of windows operation/ the biggest dupe.
Another I have to mention is any IOBit product they have several rebrandings
TrendMicro would be just 1,
I believe the link below sugar coated IOBit and didn't comment on the many bsod's IOBit products are responsible for
I've personally seen many instances where using a IOBit product will need a complete clean install to fix errors from usage
It has made it far past the "Installers Hall Of Shame"
With Windows 7 fresh install disks available at many online retail outlets like TigerDirect.... for win-7 home premium for as little as 99.00 u.s. it's a wonder why people are reluctant to do a Fresh install ?
I have to admit I was also reluctant to dive into a fresh install but finally did last year for both of my machines and it was the best decision I've ever made/ No more failed windows updates/ No more crashes........
One machine had Mcafee and another had Norton both were infected within 6 months of activation.
After repeated system restore (recommendations from yes either Mcafee or Norton's tech's) lol
Both failed to do the basic job of blocking threats on the net,
Often just their updates were the worst encountering process because neither are Windows friendly or Windows update friendly IMHO.
These are what I now use and have been for the last 2-1/2 years and have never looked back and never will,
Use these instead,
Freebie from microsoft,
Save money and add the full pro version of malwarebytes, less than mcafee or norton,
Works well with MSE,
Then use the free version of this as well for even more ways to clean your machine,
One Note to using the Pro versions of the two above,
You do need to exclude each of them from scanning at the same time or each others processes or program folders if you need assistance please ask how and I'll give you the necessary step to take,
Another very good "Free" scanner to use as a one time cleaner is here,
Review Jacee’s instructions to run Adwcleaner here,
Ignore the title of the thread,
A fun note,
To this day Norton red flags my attachments as corrupt lol :)
Read more here,
Tweaks for Internet explorer settings,
As an alternative to ccleaner please use this instead,
Temp files delete,
Run this as administrator and Start the scanner,
Shut your machine down after it finishes,
Windows has many built in features that do these basic tasks safer than ccleaner does,
Disk clean up along with system clean up are much safer to use and no third party **** needed,
