IE10 will not open online PDF pages but Chrome will

I have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat but that is not my default PDF viewer and every time I try to open an online PDF file in IE10 I receive an error message saying that my version of Acrobat cannot be used to view PDF files in a web browser -- but if I use Chrome it will open them, so that tells me the problem is with IE10.
