Google Analytics opt out browser add on not working for IE10 on Windows 7

Every time I try to install the GA opt-out browser add on, I get this error: "Error 1603: A fatal error occurred during installation."

I've looked at the Microsoft documentation and it says for Windows 7 it is one of a couple of things:

  • The folder I'm trying to install to is encrypted
  • The drive I'm trying to install to is accessed as a substitute drive

I don't know how to find out which drive and folder the installer is trying to install to, so I can check which (if either) of these is true.

Any suggestions or advice would be welcome. I'm not even sure if this is an issue with the GA installer, or with Windows.

Hi Ricki,

Is the issue specific to installing Google Analytics opt out?

This issue can occur if the add-on is not compatible with the web browser.

I would like to tell you that add-ons are mostly installed on the drive where the Operating system is installed.

Here are a few steps which you can follow and check if it helps:

a. Double click My Computer.

b. Right Click the drive you desire to install to and click on Properties.

c. Click the Securities tab.

d. Verify either the Name box or Group or user box, depending on your operating system.

e. Look for the Permissions section and click on the Full Control check box located under Allow.

f. Restart your computer.

g. Attempt installation again.
