Hi Chithalka,

1. What is the complete error message you are receiving?

2. Is the issue confined to only downloading PDF files?

3. Have you made any recent software or hardware changes on the system?

This issue may occur due to any recent changes that might have changed the Internet Explorer settings.

Let’s try the following steps and check if it helps.

Method 1:

You may refer to the article and try to disable add-ons individually (except Adobe add-ons) to determine if add-ons is causing the problem.

Manage add-ons in Internet Explorer

Method 2:

Turn of Protected mode in Internet explorer and check if it resolves the issue.

a. Click on Tools on the Menu Bar and Internet Options.
b. Select the Security tab, select the zone that you want to turn protected mode off in.

c. Uncheck the Enable Protected Mode box, and click on Apply.

For further information, refer to the article:

Change security and privacy settings in Internet Explorer

Method 3:

If the issue persists, you may try to reset Internet Explorer settings and check if it helps.

Reset Internet Explorer settings

Note: Resetting Internet Explorer's settings is not reversible. After a reset, all previous settings are lost and cannot be recovered.

Method 4:

If the issue occurs only with PDF files, then you may also try to uninstall and reinstall the Adobe Reader installed on your computer.

Uninstall or change a program

Download Adobe Reader

Thanks Praseetha for your reply. I tried all 4 options that you gave me, unfortunately nothing worked.

I am can open pdf files.  The problem comes up when there is a link from a website to a pdf file. I get the standard error message that either the page does not exist or the link is not correct (the standard web page error) However if I copy and paste this link to Google Chorme the link opens and I can open the pdf file.

the issue is only with pdf files in IE 10 and I haven't done any recent update either.

Hi Chithalka,

Since the link opens in Google Chorme, this could be related to the website compatibility issues with Internet Explorer 10.

You may try to open the website in compatibilty view settings and check if  it helps.
