Are NPAPI Plugins still compatible with Internet Explorer

With Google recently blocking NPAPI plugins in Chrome by default (which includes Java plugin), it makes me wonder what the likelihood is that Microsoft will block NPAPI plugins in IE - any ideas?  There's nothing about this on the Java.com site.

Thanks

Dale
