Cannot open pdf files in internet explorer 9

I can not open PDF files in web pages whilst using Explorer 9, I have a new 6 month old Dell laptop running windows 7 64 bit.

I have no problems opening PDF files in Explorer 8, but after downloading the Windows Exploer 9 for Windows 7 for x64 based systems update.

I get the yellow bar at the bottom of the page which asks if I want to open or save the PDF document, but after either selection it locks and does nothing.

In Explorer 8 using the same method the page automatically opens in Adobe Reader with no problems.

Can anybody give me a solution to this problem?

I continually have to stop windows update downloading to advoid this issue.

Regards

Neil

All now working perfectly, I got a fix from another forum and it worked for me.

Thanks everybody for your help and advice.

Hi,

Try these settings:
1. Open Adobe Reader> Edit> Preferences> Internet> uncheck "Display PDF in browser." PDF files will open in Adobe Reader, not Internet Explorer.

2. Internet Options> Advanced> Security, uncheck "Do not save encrypted pages to disk."

3. From Safety (on the IE Command Bar) uncheck ActiveX Filtering. (Change this setting back if it doesn't help.

4. Try right-clicking the link to the PDF file and choosing "Save target as" the open the file. That's helped me on occasion.
