Edge will only save files as txt file.

when I try to download a program/file. Save as only give one option (save as txt). if you try and just save, it will say cannot download, then retry, it downloads and saves as txt file.

What happens if you try changing the text file to an appropriate extension associated with it such as .exe?

Try the following to see if it helps:

I now have it so it saves as a txt file (after 2nd attempt) and then rename it .exe and it works. still very strange.

Go into safe mode in another user profile to fix this blighter, then probe the broken User Profile:

                           - C:\Users\"BROKEN_USER"\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache

rename counters2.dat -> counters2.poo (or anything else that amuses)

Reboot.  Log back into the bad profile, counters2.dat will re-build itself.

MS  Edge will be as normal as usual now, though MS are still working on perfecting it - this we all know.  With all the problems, might as well call it IE12.  11 never got fixed so you can work more than afew hours without having to ctrl-alt-delte end task.  Mozilla Firefox is the best work-around, or setting IE11 as primary browser, and just use edge for what it was designed for MSN and movies, nothing else IMHO.

This is proffered as "a" probable fix not "the ultimate fix", as software permutations & malfunctioning often require unique solutions.

Having said this, this fix has been applied on numerous instances for correcting the problem when cleanup utilities like CCCleaner and Glary Utilities understands that the hereto-before .dat files  shouldn't be tampered with.

I am in a real dilemma here    I have saved files as .docx for download for my users.    I than find out MS edge

converts those files to .txt when downloading them.   Results in gibberish for my users.   The downloads work fine in chrome.    I can't get them to do all the conversions you specify.   What the hexx am i going to do?   convert the files to PDF?
