You can change and customize preferences in your Bing SafeSearch.  Keep in mind however, that SafeSearch settings do not persist across Windows 8 applications to the Web experience (Bing.com). 

 

You may also need to alter Cookie settings in your browser to retain these Settings in Bing.

 

How to allow Cookies in Internet Explorer:

 

1.       Open Internet Explorer

2.       Click Tools -> Internet options

3.       Click the Privacy tab

4.       Click the Advanced button

5.       Make sure that the following options are checked:

          a.       Override automatic cookie handling

          b.      Accept under First-party Cookies

          c.       Accept under Third-party Cookies

          d.      Always allow session Cookies

6.       Click OK to close the Advanced Privacy Settings Windows

7.       Click Apply then OK buttons to close the Internet options window

 

NOTE:

  • Instructions are the same for Internet Explorer 10
  • These settings are not available/do not apply to the modern version of Internet Explorer

 

 

How to change your Bing SafeSearch settings:

 

1.       Go to http://www.bing.com/

2.       Click the Gear (Preferences) icon towards the top right side of the page

3.       In the SafeSearch section, select your desired setting:

          a.       Strict – Filter adult text, images and videos from your search results

          b.      Moderate – Filter adult images and videos but not text from your search results

          c.       Off – Don’t filter adult content from your search results

4.       Click Save

 

 

How to change your Bing SafeSearch settings within the Windows 8 Bing App:

 

1.       Go to the Bing App

2.       Either swipe from the right side of the screen or hover the mouse on the lower right corner to

          open the Charms bar

3.       Select Settings then SafeSearch

4.       In the SafeSearch section select your desired setting:

          a.       Strict – Filter adult text, images, and videos from your search results

          b.      Moderate – Filter adult images and videos but not text from your search results

          c.       Off – Don’t filter adult content from your search results

 

If you are unable to change the SafeSearch settings, check if you have a type of security software installed that automatically deletes cookies on your computer.  If you have one, you may need to have that software properly configured first.
