Surface Book 3 Feature update to Windows 10, version 2004, device isn't quite ready for it

I have a Surface Book 3, running windows 10 pro version 1909. In Windows update, it says "The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way. We’re offering this update to compatible devices, but your device isn’t quite ready for it. Once your device is ready, you’ll see the update available on this page. There’s nothing you need to do at this time."

I have a surface book 3. Microsoft's latest computer. How could it not be ready for the update???? Cmon microsoft get your update together.

How tf do I check why it isn't letting me update?

I don't recommend trying to update using the Media Creation Tool. Wait for
compatibility issues to be resolved.

You may try to do an in-place upgrade <https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10> using the Media Creation Tool or enroll in Windows Insider:

NO

The Media Creation Tool is NOT recommended. And why would you recommend
enrolling in Windows Insider to bypass the block?

I bought the SB3 to have a brand new machine with Docker and WSL2. The hardware has been shipped, waiting for the software...
Guys, you should have told us that before letting us purchasing that! I was hesitating with a Dell laptop, I guess now I'll return my SB3 :D

Can you at least tell us when the update will be possible?

If it takes another weeks, I would buy a notebook from another manufacturer.

I spent 3000 Euro to be able to use the latest Microsoft WSL 2 device and now I have to work with my old notebook.

Am very disappointed with Microsoft.

So, I got a SB3, (15 inch, 32GB, 2TB, GTX1660 Ti), i am on the insider ring, and have Windows 10 2004 build version 19645 (fast ring) ... and i have had no issue at all.

System is running fast, and stable since i updated it.

Highly recommend doing ALL the firmwares, and any additional software updates while still on 1909, then hop onto the inside ring.

before playing on the fast ring, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ensure you have backups!! I tend to keep the majority of my stuff on OneDrive... So if i have to rebuild, it isnt an issue. Just login to onedrive, and set folders like doc's, desktop etc to onedrive and boom. All there.

If you arent comfortable with blanking your machine and installing from scratch using a bootable ISO in case something goes really sideways... then sit tight... i believe 2004 GA for the surface line should be around soon.

This is insane, Microsoft Hardware should be the first priority not other hardware in the market.  I own Thinkpad and I received a v2004 update but not for SB3.

Agree with you on that.... but my SB3 is running perfectly fine... build 20150 ... i downloaded the newly released Iron branch ISO from MSFT.... and been running for a few days now, and not had any issues.

Up to you i guess if you want to run an insider build, or wait for an RTM build.

Yup, though it begs the question "Am I feeling lucky" and adds new variables to the whole business of running WSL2 and Docker etc. I feel lost in the complexity of a standard installed OS, but I can see myself moving to the insider builds to get what I need (WSL2 and real Linux + Docker).
