Return to dashboard freeze

I recently got a brand new xbox 360 slim 250gb console, with the games i have installed onto the HDD whenever i "return to dashboard" in game, the dashboard will not load or take forever to do so and the disc drive will make a clk,clk,clk........clk,clk,clk sound. Anoying problem, any help?

p.s i have tryed clearing the system cache and looking for corrupt data.

Thanks in advance

Alex

If you remove the HDD, does the issue still happen?

Thanks for the reply, thing is it only seems to do it when the game is installed to the hdd. Sometimes the dashboard will load up instantly, others i just a black screen (freeze) or takes about a minute to load (although ejecting the disc will imediatly bring up the dashboard).

Not a major problem i guess but just the fact this is a brand new slim and i didn't expect any problems after the previous 5-6 360's i have had.

Maybe microsoft are aware of this specific problem and are working on a patch?

Hey mate, this is certainly a bit odd, and an issue I'm not experiencing on my Xbox 360 S currently. Can you backup your save data to a USB drive confiugred for use with Xbox? At that point, I suggest formatting the drive, to see if that resolves the issue.

Yeah done this today, still experiencing the problem on occasions, also sometimes does it during a game update. begging to think its a disc drive problem (faulty laser), still not certain though. could just put it down to the disc, but it has happened on many of my games that are installed to the hdd and the problem won't occur if playing direct from the disc.

Another thing that may or may not be related is i receive quite a bit of screen tearing in some games (mostly alan wake, c&c ra3 and fallout new vegas), screen tearing is something i can't stand. Tryed using different resolutions 1080p, 1080i, 720p still no change.

None of that souonds normal. I strongly suggest bringing the console back to the retailer for an exchange. You can also set up a repair here, if you prefer.

Yeah was afraid that was going to be the answer : [

Think maybe the screen tearing is tv related but who knows, defenitly not a cable issue as i tryed 2 different hdmi cabels and component.

Anyway contacted store of purchased to see about an exchange. Worst comes to worst I will send it in for Microsoft repair and wait the long long wait.

Again not a huge problem really just like things to work how they should. Really thought with the Slim there would be zero problems, wishfull thinking aye.

Thanks for your help.
