I've read so many topics about 60hz/50hz, stuttering pictures etc but cannot find a straight answer to this question:
Can the Xbox One operate in pass-thru mode for Sky TV when in standby? If not - are you people seriously leaving your Xbox One on for hours at a time while watching TV?
Two different Microsoft people I've spoken to gave two different answers. The last one told me to set my xbox to 720p to resolve this as the UK uses 50hz not 60hz?!?. I tried this and it made no difference at all, so I've set it back to 1080p and auto detect HDMI as I've had no problems with picture quality. The only change I have made is to reconnect Sky direct to the TV so I can watch with the Xbox One on standby (obviously I cannot watch TV thru Xbox now). Incidentally, when I change from Sky (which my TV says is connecting at 1080i/50hz) to Xbox One (which my TV says is connecting at 1080p/60hz) I have no problems with picture or sound.
I've pasted the relevant comments from the chat with Microsoft below. Note the last comment where it states it is NOT recommended to leave Xbox One on for long periods.

Display & sound> TV connection> HDMI
Channelle: Now that HDMI is not on auto detect,
you can then change the resolution.

Channelle: This is just a temporary work around for
now.
Channelle: As of the moment we don't have updates
on the resolution, but rest assured this issue has been noted and may be part of the future software update.
Gez: I'll try it later and surely be in touch if it still isn't working. I assume then that leaving Xb1 on for long periods is not recommended?
