Name Change

a week ago i purchased microsoft points to change my name, when i wasnt home my brothers thought it would be hilarious to change my gamertag to my real name. I obviously dont want people to see my real name as my gamertag if you can understand. Ive been having freinds report my gamertag so that i can change it for free, but i dont want to get banned. I have emailed and called xbox support and they both said that i should post a forum. Im hoping that you can help in some way. My gamertag is Michael Kranker if you need that...

No one would have know this if you did not post about it. Just buy 800 points and switch it back. Make your brothers pay for it if need be.

You can only change your name for free for 2 reasons.

1. If the system assigned you a random gamertag when you signed up you can change it once for free, but this is only good for the first 30 days.

2. If your gamertag violates the code of conduct the enforcement team will issue a forced gamertag change. Too many forced changes can cause your account to be banned though.

Actually his GT does violate the Code of Conduct:

Don't give out personal information of other players (such as their real name, address, phone number, credit card number, etc.) in any way (including, without limitation, through voice chat or the names you create for your gamertag or mottos). This information could be used by other players for illegal or harmful purposes. You should also avoid giving out your own personal information.

I would just like to point out that having your friends report your Gamertag as a violation of the Terms of Use is not exactly a great way to have it changed, as if there has been any evidence of other violations of the Terms of Use, a suspension, temporary or permanent, can be issued. It's best to just change it the correct way by purchasing a name change. You may also want to ask your brother for the 800 MSP to change it. :)
