Continually being kicked off of Netflix

Hi,

I'm a 30 year old dude. I haven't had a day off in 4 months. Literally, 4 moths. I have worked through a Sinus Infection, Bronchitis, and pneumonia. The ONLY I have in this GOD FORSAKEN **** of a town (Kansas City, Mo.) is a movie, or a few old shows on Netflix before I get a few hours sleep. This evening, I have spent the last FOUR HOURS trying to watch a less than two our movie, because, I'm continually being kicked off of Netflix/XBOX Live, with a prompt saying that I do not have a Gold Membership. Funny thing is, I just got charged for it, sooooooooo, yes I think I do. I've read that when the bandwith gets low it tells the xbox that I'm not a Gold Member.

The funny thing is, is that one room mate has a Wii, and he has they same bandwith. He has to buffer sometimes (which, I'm fine with), but he doesn't have to reboot the system, restart the app, and start the movie again.

My other room mate has a PS3. Again, he buffers but he doesn't have to deal with this.

I am writing to let you know that I will be selling this machine, and canceling my account with you guys. That is a major shame too. The load times are faster, the games are better, and the controller is 100000% better than anyone else (analog stick placement is key!), but I'm done playing your money games. I'm to old, and tired to deal with it. Sony, who only requires me to buy their unit, and nothing else, will be getting my business from now on. You guys have lost me.

Respectfully,

Joe L.

Hello

To use the Netflix app, you need:

  • An Xbox LIVE Gold Membership
  • At least 5 megabytes (MB) of available space
  • A Netflix account with unlimited streaming. You can use your existing account or sign up for an account on your console.
  • High-speed Internet access

I have all of those things that are listed. Netflix will start up, I will start a movie, and than 10 minutes in, I will get disconnected from XBox with a message saying that I need a Gold Membership to use Netflix. XBOX360 is a money making machine. I get it. I'm just done with it. I'll go to a system that doesn't want to monetarily *** me.

Sorry to hear your having troubles Joe. I really don't know why this is happening to you but I can tell you that this is not an XBOX issue. This is an issue with Netflix streaming. XBOX is just the hardware you are using to stream through. I do see that you do have a gold account and it is active. Can I ask what your internet and speed is and we can go from there. I'd love to see if we can help you.

Hey there Joe!  I can totally feel the frustration and I empathize.   Could you give us some more detail into your setup etc?  I am mainly looking for a router configuration mainly a make and model, wired or wireless connection etc.

Also, I would like to start off by asking you to delete your xbox profile from the hard drive and the netflix app as well.  Once that's completed, lets clear the cache (Link) out of the xbox and then try re-downloading the profile to see if this resolves the netflix quirkiness.

Don't give up just yet!  Where else are you going to have a slick bandito hat?

My internet speed is really really slow. We pay for the fastest wireless service, but with it we download at 0.54 mb/s. Yes, I put the decimal in the correct place. When I plug into the router directly, I get the same exact speed. AT&T has been out and run some tests and said that they are showing the full 15mb/s signal. They are either liars, or are confused. I do believe them when they say that they are sending that signal however, and I'm convinced there's a problem with the house, because even with the best cell phones on the market right now, we all have to leave the house to use our phones because the signal for the phone dies as well.

Zer0 G, I will try your suggestions.

If your internet is running really slow right now, you need to contact your ISP to find if they are having an issue right now.

Jamser78 I have contacted AT&T. They are trying to figure out what the problem is. It looks like the wiring in my house was installed in the 40's and isn't shielded so it's causing major havoc on all electrical signals. My point from the original post was that I know that I have really slow internet in the house, and that NetFlix runs on the Playstation Network, and the Nintendo network, but not on XBox Live. BTW, I get kicked off of LastFM as well. The next time it happens I will take a picture and show you guys what it looks like.

The reason WII and PS3 do not get kicked as much is simply put- they dont take as much bandwith as xbox live- with the console connected to live your friends list and everything is connected even when using Netflix and LastFM and such. There is no simple way around it. Best possible solution is to get AT&T to fix. being i also work for ISP having them tell you it isnt working because if unshielded cable(assuming they are meaning your power lines in house, this can cause a lot of interference) its just an excuse. there are ways around that(filters and such) At this point it isnt so much a problem with your xbox Could be something after AT&Ts system (your router or anything) Please tell us your setup and we will attempt to troubleshoot from that standpoint
