Cant sign in to XBOX Live

2 nights ago I realized when I loaded up Operation Flashpoint Red River for the first time that no of the achievements showed up under the games list, when I clicked on it it read "Earned acheivements will show up here, play games to earn acheivements" or something like that.   I deleted, reloaded, did the update and still no acheivement descriptions would load.   I recently found a copy of PGR, same thing, recent play list etc did not show me playing it.   I was advised by another source to Recover My Gamer Tag, which I did.   After that I couldnt connect to Live so I gave up and called it a night

Tried again this evening, when I login I get the sign in window everything looks normal and it says "signing in" and the little circle is spinning, spinning and spinning for about 10 minutes now.   I recovered my gamer tag again but at the end there was a brief message about sign up not being available and I beleived I clicked ok.   I also saw some sort of an alert message that popped up but quickly cycled out when my gamer tag popped up (it flashed so quick I couldnt read it but diffently a warning of some sort about a failure etc...).

My connection is solid, when I do a network test it shows connected across the board.   I didnt think recovering a gamer tag would jack stuff up, I heard it is a fix sometimes when things get glitchy. Look, I am not tech whiz, I can figure this much out: obviously my account works here to get on to Xbox.com, plus I accessed my gamer tag thru my Windows phone so its not like that part is corrupt.   My network/internet is fine or I wouldn,t be posting this.   I do have 4 green lights on the front of my consol glowing brightly all the time, this started a while back and I have plugged and replugged etc.   I know the RROD, what all 4 green mean and could it relate to why I cant connect to live?

Any help, ideas, suggestions would eb appreciated.   If its a technical process to follow I bang thru it, I am a socket and wrench kidn of person, not a computer guy so please approach any steps with that knowledge.   This is a great communtiy, I look forward to any assistance I can get. In the morning I am going to unplug and replug everything again, try to sign on and check back here for ideas.

I've got a same (or similar) problem, and it's really bothering me as well.  I would like to know an answer.

You are correct, I would suggest recovering your profile to the console. The only thing you'd have to worry about when doing this is if you earned offline achievements. Otherwise, I'd suggest recovering and that should re-sync your achievements.

If you plan on using your account regularly on multiple consoles, I would recommend putting it on a USB storage device. Recovering your profile is not meant to be done regularly. Once it is on the USB device, you can plug that into any console and access it like normal.
