Primary Hard Disk Drive 0 Not Found on Dell computer running Windows XP

Original title:Hard Drive Not Found

I have a Dell System Dimension 4550 Series PC running Windows XP SP3.  When starting up the following message is now appearing "Primary Hard Disk Drive 0 Not Found".  Am only given the option to F1 or F2 neither of which appears to provide a viable solution.  Unable to access anything past this screen.  All connections appear to be correct.  Resolution ideas will be gratefully received !  Thank you.

Hi MartinL960,

Do you recall making any changes prior to this issue?

This is a hardware issue with Dell, through my research I have found that users experiencing similar issue have fixed the issue by making changes to the hard disk settings in the BIOS.

Important: Modifying BIOS (Basic input output system)/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Since the resolution demands altering BIOS which is risky, I would recommend to you contact dell for more specialized assistance on this issue
