Windows 8.1 Blue screen ACPI BIOS ERROR

i installed 8.1 and now my computer blue screens on startup. the error says acpi bios error, and then restarts, and cycles through this over and over.. accessing bios and the advanced startup options isn't possible. Whats causing this? and how can i fix this?

Hi,

ACPI is the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface. Have you tried clearing the CMOS (loading optimized BIOS defaults)?

How can i do that? accessing the bios on startup isn't working through any traditional means... ie f8 or f1-12 and with a combination of shift or the function key...

I found the info on google... I'll try this tomorrow when i get the chance.. Does anyone else have any other ideas?

Good to hear.

If the optimized BIOS defaults does not help, it's possible there's a device driver conflicting on startup. If that's the case, boot into safe mode with networking (if possible) and zip up and upload the DMP files to a site like Skydrive, etc, to be analyzed so we can pinpoint the problem.

Unfortunately I cannot get into safe mode or any of the advanced startup options. Is the acpi bios error a hardware failure?

You said you found the info on Google, so I assumed you meant you found out how to access the Advanced Startup Options. Does f12 not work on boot? I don't have access to a Win8 machine, so I can't check, but I have read that holding Shift + F8 in some cases can access it as well. You'll need to do it quickly, especially if fast-startup is enabled.

I found the info on resetting the cmos. I'll definitely be trying that first thing tomorrow when i can get a hold of my computer.. A tech has it right now. But unfortunately all the combos of function keys i've tried didn't work. Its a samsung as well and their tech support had me try f8 f4 and f2, with and without holding the shift key. I think my last resort is trying to reset the cmos.

I had the same problem with a samsung series 5. I was able to start system recovery by pressing and holding F4 during 'startup'. I hope this works for you as well.
