Recovery media creator shows "could not find the files needed". What to do ?

Windows 8 Recovery media creator shows "could not find the files needed". I have no installation disc or recovery media. My laptop came with pre-installed Windows 8. What can i do to create a recovery media ? Is it possible for me to get an installation disc for Windows 8 ? I have tried Refresh your pc and reinstall windows options in PC Settings. It also shows the same message. Please help me. Thanks.

Hi Jithin,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

From your issue description, I understand that Recovery media creator gives you an error message "could not find the files needed”.

Let’s start with a question.
-What is the make and model of the computer?
Since the computer came pre installed with Windows 8 you have the System recovery built in, so you may restart the computer and then change the boot priority and set it to System recovery partition and then try to perform Reset/ Refresh and check.
In order to change the settings you may contact the OEM (original equipment manufacturer).
BIOS DISCLAIMER:
Modifying BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

If you want the Windows 8 installation disc, I suggest you contact Microsoft store and check.
Refer to the link.

As Windows 8 came pre- installed, I suggest you contact the computer manufacturer for recovery media and check.

Hope the above information helps.

Thanks for replying.

I have a Sony Vaio SVE15127CNW >> Intel Core i5-

I already tried System recovery from boot menu but it directly boots to Windows 8.

I think i got what went wrong. When my movie collection needed more space on Hard disk, i was about to resize C partition. When i tried to do that, recovery partitions disappeared all of a sudden. I don't know what happened.

Is there anything i can do now ?
My system is getting slower and slower every moment. It took almost 40 seconds to load the right click menu. Most of the softwares goes not responding. I heard the product key is encrypted in the BIOS and when installing Windows 8 it will automatically detect the key. Is it possible for me to get a disc image of Windows 8 ? If i have a key in my BIOS, would that be the easier way ?
