In Windows 7, under IPv4 Properties, DNS server addresses once added can no longer be changed

In Windows 7, under IPv4 Properties I had entered specific DNS server addresses, instead of obtaining them via DHCP.  Now when I try to select "Obtain DNS server address automatically", this setting is not retained, but keeps changing back to the specific addresses, usually after several minutes.

No matter what I do, I cannot get rid of the specific settings.  Even if I overwrite the specific addresses with different ones, the original DNS server addresses keep coming back.  I have tried cleaning the registry, but even this has not helped.  It seems that the addresses are being held somewhere in memory and then re-applied every few minutes.

Ok, I solved my own problem.  The DNS entries were being created by the DynDNS Updater.  Once I disabled the "DynDNS.com Internet Guide on this PC" in the Advanced configuration, the problem disappeared.

If anyone has the same problem with phantom DNS entries (216.146.35.35 and 216.146.36.36) that keep reappearing, check if DynDNS Updater is doing this.
