How can i remove old network connections?

Hi everyone,

When i am using ipconfig i get a long, long list of network connections. The counter for LAN-Connections has reached already 40. Of course, i dont use so many connections. I am not sure, how this happens. But what i have to do now? The merge - or delete - command for network addresses seems not to work. I found many hints in the web regarding the registry, but i argue that this would do some damage. So, what is the proper way? I hope there exists other ways than reinstall Windows 7...

Hey guys, I had this issue too and after some googling came across this post from 2006, http://forums.techguy.org/networking/459097-remove-old-network-adapters-os.html .

Specifically looking in this registry key, [ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} ]. You can delete the subkeys of old devices and rename your current ones to whatever you want.

Disclaimer: Its the registry, don't screw it up! (I haven't tried editing any of these myself yet under W7).
