I have just upgraded 5 machines for a customer from windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro. their data is stored on a server (SBS 2003) and until now if they wanted to move files or folders or update Word Docs / Excel datasheets they could do at will without any problems whatsoever. What seems to happen now is that if they try to modify files then re-save them (Word Documents, Excel datasheets etc) they are told the file is in use and the changes cannot be saved. We have also upgraded their MS office from 2003 Pro to 2010 Small Business but this seems to affect all files not just Office based, so for example if i try and move a PDF file from one folder to another i get 'file is in use and cannot be moved / deleted'
I also have another customer with same issue, same setup (upgraded workstations from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro) they too are having issues moving / Deleting files from shares on a SBS 2003 Server?
I have checked the server and the files definately arent open else where?
Can anyone help me out on this.....
I have also tried the following to see if i can cure problem:
User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components.
- Click on Windows Explorer.
- Right-click the entry "Turn off the caching of thumbnails in hidden thumbs.db files" and choose Edit.
- Enable the setting.
as apparently Windows 7 stores files info in a Thumbs.db file & to see if this made any difference but still no change.
This is seriously trying my patience and my customers are now asking if they can have windows XP back!!!!
Surely theres a fix for this somewhere?
Should also add that i have disabled off line files as i thought this may be causing the problem but no change.
