Windows 10 Creators Update installation fails with 0x8007001F on Acer Aspire notebook

I am currently running Windows 10 Anniversary Update (14393) on my Acer Aspire V3-772G.

I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 10 Creators Update using the Windows 10 Update Assistant.

After downloading and approximately 75% of the way through the installation, it announces that "something went wrong" and provides error code 0x8007001F.

This is the error log in the Panther directory:

The log has a lot more in it of course, but that's where this error number first shows up; it shortly spits out the same errors you see in the error log.

I do realize that this laptop is not on Acer's list of supported machines for the Creators Update. It's also not on the Anniversary Update list -- but it works anyway. And I don't care if Acer supports it or not -- I'm not expecting to call them for help with my computer.

EDIT: SOLVED! For some stupid reason this website doesn't let me mark my own reply as the solution. I solved it myself. The solution is in the replies below. I had to turn off Secure Boot.

Answer

I was eventually able to update to the Creators Update on my machine. I "solved" it by disabling Secure Boot in the BIOS.

It's not clear at all to me why disabling Secure Boot would make it so the installer can figure out how much free disk space I have, but it can't do that while Secure Boot is on... but in any case, it worked.

I've converted GPT drive to MBR using gdisk on Linux and from WinRE I've fixed MBR boot sector and bootloader on C: drive, switched BIOS to use Legacy Boot and managed to boot Windows. Creator Update went w/o any problems after that. I guess on specific UEFI BIOSes this is the only way to do it. Once there you can switch to UEFI boot, but I would expect that next update will have the same problem as described earlier.
