Windows 10 Home upgrade to Windows 10 Pro

Short answer for those that don't want to read further is, Yes and Yes (at time of publication).

Right, so I decided to take the plunge and track down the answer to this, I did a little research on the various press articles online but eventually contacted Microsoft live chat again, this time I got a much more helpful member of the support team who simply answered my questions instead of constantly offering to sell me something.

Amy M on the support desk your a star. Microsoft take note, I'm a happy customer and you've still made a sale of an 8.1 pro pack (There was no way on earth I would buy a full version, the pro pack cost is enough without knowing I've paid for one licence twice)

Basically press sources seem to be generally of the opinion that they expect there to be a pro pack (or Windows 10 equivalent) which they expect to be about the same cost as the current 8.1 pro pack but after scouring the Microsoft sites it's clear this isn't available yet. They're probably concentrating on simple like for like upgrades at the moment, which is understandable considering the volume of updates being undergone at the moment but (again MS take note) it would have been handy to have known a Home to Pro upgrade would not be available before setting out on the upgrade path.

One of my major frustrations has been to get past the "upgrade to Windows 10" info plastered all over the Microsoft sites. I know the search engines are focused on this due to the volume of traffic on this subject at the moment but honestly all routes currently run to here! I found myself shouting at the computer that I didn't want to "Upgrade to Windows 10" I wanted to Upgrade Windows 10, to which my computer seemed nonchalantly disinterested in my pleas.

Anyway, Amy reassured me that if I reverted back to Windows 8.1 Home ( Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Go Back to Windows 8.1 option) then upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro by buying the 8.1 pro pack I would still get the free upgrade to Windows 10 and that that upgrade would be Windows 10 Pro.

I can confirm that I have done this and my experience has been good, well I am now working on Windows 10 Pro so target achieved...

but...

Be advised, make sure you allow the time for this, I started at about 10am this morning and was back up and running again a little before 2pm and I didn't take any backups along the way!

This isn't recommended and I was only confident about not doing it because I have literally done nothing important on this machine since I bought it because I wanted the pro version of Windows 10, but there are obvious points that you can break the process up if need be if you can't afford the time to run through all of the changes in one go.
